24 Feb Watersports At Sakoa Boutik Hotel
Mauritius is known for its beautiful white, sandy beaches and pristine turquoise oceans. Located on the island’s North West, Trou aux Biches is a swimming and sunbathing utopia with a three-kilometre beach fringed with coconut palms. The clear and warm waters off its coastlines make it a haven for a wide range of water sports. Despite its growing popularity Trou aux Biches is one of the least crowded beaches on the island.
When you stay with us at Le Sakoa Boutik Hotel, you’ll no doubt be spending most of your days in, on and around the water, whatever your skill level – whether you’re a seasoned pro searching for adrenaline or an adventure the whole family can enjoy. As part of your stay, you’ll benefit from access to a wide range of paid and free watersport activities and day trips that depart from the hotel, all supervised by experienced instructors and all carrying the potential to create lifelong memories. New to water sports? Try these:
Single or Double Kayaking
In terms of ocean adventure, sea kayaking is an excellent place to start since it’s simple, environmentally friendly, and provides entry-level access to one of the island’s most fascinating ecosystems. First, discover the tranquillity of the Trou aux Biches lagoon and the reef breaks nearby. Then, embark on a solo adventure or with a companion in a double kayak. Kayaking offers the finest sun, sky, island and sea all in one experience.
Pedalos
Take a paddle out on a pedalo; the size of this pedal-powered watercraft makes it safer to venture further out. Take a ride out on the waves, coupled with an excellent calf workout. Pedalos provide an exciting, secure and memorable experience for the whole family.
Stand Up Paddle
Enjoy a short, exhilarating 300m paddle out to explore the Trou aux Biches lagoon for yourself, standing upright or kneeling. Except for a few triggerfish and butterflyfish, the sandy regions along the shore do not attract many fish, but the lagoon is home to an underwater metropolis. Since 2018, the reef has seen incredible regeneration in delicate branches and finger coral. Among the coral, you’ll be able to spot enormous clams, red pencil urchins, and conches from above through the crystal clear waters.
Glass Bottom Boat, Snorkelling & Scuba Diving Trips
Troux Aux Biches is a gateway to some of our island’s most breathtaking reefs. Two natural channels split the reef and lead out onto the outer reefs, and from here, the most spectacular coral structures can be seen from the comfort of your glass-bottom boat. Embark on one of our daily departures between 10:00-11:00 and 14:00-15:00.
Of course, this is also where you can experience the enchantment of our island’s diverse underwater world from below the surface with snorkelling and scuba diving excursions. The outer reefs are where you’re most likely to encounter sea turtles, and because of the ideal year-round weather conditions the North-Western parts of the island are famous for, conditions are perfect more often than not. All equipment and life jackets are provided.
Something With A Bit More Adrenaline
There’s no better place to kick back and relax than on this delightful beach, flanked on all sides by beautiful casuarina trees. Because of the calm and shallow waters, this is an excellent place to go swimming or paddling. Trou Aux Biches is a gateway to several beautiful diving spots in Mauritius. But because of the protection provided by the lagoons from big waves, it’s also perfect for action-packed water sports.
Water Skiing, Wake Boarding & Banana Buoy
Enjoy a short boat ride to the starting point inside the lagoon, where you will be given your skis and life jacket. The boat’s speed and the course’s complexity are adjusted based on your skill level.
A water skiing-snowboarding hybrid, wakeboarding is a stimulating, dynamic, and exhilarating sport suitable for both beginner and experienced riders. Fly at high speeds across the water and use the swells to jump over the wake. It’s the ultimate adventure for thrill-seekers! A great way to get in shape: popular among all board sports enthusiasts. Alternatively, enjoy a ride on an inflatable banana buoy and hang on while the boat tows you at super speed.
Sakoa Boutik Hotel offers these activities and a wide range of other watersport adventures to fill your day. Whether you’re looking to pick up new skills, use your holiday as a kick-starter to stay in shape, or a seasoned traveller checking one of the world’s finest locations off your bucket list, let Sakoa be your home away from home.
